The objective of the game is to help your penguin friend cross icy floes to the safe side. The way to do this is by using the only equipment that the penguins have: their wits and the rope. If your friend falls into the water, you will have to help him out.
You can only help him by jumping and crossing the ice. If your friend is unable to move, you will have to try to find a way to get him out of the water.
